The Fiat 500 might just be the most fashionable compact car on the market today and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It maybe “cute” to some, but it is still a solid performer and has the souped-up Abarth to counter any adorable jokes. With such a wide variety of trim levels, it makes sense to add one more and Fiat did just that with the upcoming 2012 500 Cabrio.
The 500 is all about the driving experience just as much as overall presence. Ever since Fiat merged with Chrysler, the group has been making plans to bring small car pleasure back to the United States. A unique “tip of the hat” was given to the original 500 canvas roof to create the 2012 model, and that nostalgia can easily be seen. Looking retro sells but performing like the older models doesn’t so the new soft roof 500 features a power operated dual-layered canvas roof while the underpinnings are just as strong as the standard 500 (which is basically a Fiat Panda). It is nice knowing that the 500 Cabrio has been around since 2010 (as a European model) and that surely the kinks have been worked out for the American market.
