Formula E is coming back for a second season, and the FIA has just released its official list of approved manufacturers. There are a total of ten teams that have been selected to participate, and it should create a rather wild season. For the first season, every single team was required to use the same car with the same drivetrain. This was done to save costs and prove the viability of the sport. For the new season though, the rules have been opened up, and each team can now create their own drivetrain. Of the ten teams, there will be nine different drivetrain specifications. If that doesn’t sound like a great way to add some unpredictability, I don’t know what would.
The cars themselves are still identical in every way to prevent lengthy and costly aero work from dominating the sport like it does in F1. The new season starts with the first pre-season test in August, and the first race takes place in Beijing on October 17.
