2015 Ford F150 XL

The United States auto industry recently wrapped up February and now, it’s time to reflect on the facts and figures that add reason to the business – sales. Despite the lowest day count of the 12 months, the second page of the 2015 calendar still held 24 selling days and in those days, Americans managed to purchase 1,193,872 cars and trucks. That figure is up from last February by an impressive 5.3 percent. What’s more impressive, but perhaps not in a positive light, is the continual decline in large car sales. With only 98 sold last month, a total of just 222 examples of the once iconic Americana segment have been purchased in 2015 which, is a decrease of 57.5 percent. Of all the segments, the one that came out on top for February was the crossover with 308,229 total sold.

Even with its controversial aluminum fenders, the Ford F-Series continues to be America’s favorite with 55,236 units sold during February. Despite its numbers, the blue oval truck posted 1.2 percent less sales than February 2014 and not too far in its rear view was its rival from General Motors, the second place Chevrolet Silverado. With 45,395 units sold, the Chevy truck saw an impressive 24.1 percent increase compared to 2014. Benefiting from its recent refresh, the 2015 Toyota Camry earned a third place finish with 32,942 bought and, was the highest selling sedan for February.

Manufacturer wise, General Motors earned the number one spot with 231,378 total units sold despite a drop in total car sales by 20.6 percent. Ford also saw a fall in total car sales but did not see as impressive of an increase in truck purchases, causing the blue oval to earn third place with 179,673 units sold. In between the two Americans was Toyota with 180,467 cars, trucks and crossovers purchased – an increase of 13.3 percent from last February.

On the other end of the spectrum, Alfa Romeo sold 47 cars in the U.S.(presumably all 4c’s), Rolls Royce 72, and Lamborghini 93. Tesla’s popularity fell by 25 percent compared to February 2014 with 1,200 cars sold while Ferrari sold 119 cars – two more than last year.
