Chrysler LLC and Dodge will be issuing a voluntary recall on certain Charger Pursuit Police Cars due to a electrical issue that has the potential of snowballing into something worse. Affected vehicle components could be the headlamps and or ABS and Electronic Stability Control module. An overheating issue seems to be the main culprit as the Charger’s low beams could fail if the bulb harness shorts out and the Power Distribution Center that controls the ABS could become overworked and thus quite working. At the end of the day, Police Officers would be stuck with a car that would not be able to see or stop.
As of now, Dodge is looking into approximately 9,688 Chargers. The model years at risk are 2011 and 2012 and all have been equipped with the Police Pursuit Package. To remedy the issue, Chrysler LLC will not only replace the headlamp jumper harness but relocate the ABS/ESC system fuse within the Power Distribution Center to keep it cool. This fix will happen at no extra cost to police departments and the recall is scheduled to begin during March 2012.
