The new Corvette is one of the most important cars in the lineup for General Motors and they are doing everything they can to make sure it is perfect. Apparently, that also means they won’t be selling it with some of their own parts.
Motor Trend is reporting that GM’s new eight-speed automatic is not quite ready for prime-time so they will be shipping the Corvette with a unit sourced from Japanese maker Aisin. This appears to be just a temporary arrangement, and GM will move the new unit into the Corvette as soon as it is ready. The new transmission will also see duty across the GM lienup with applications in the Cadillac sedans, Buick LaCrosse and the new Impala.
Of course, none of this really matters because you will buy your new Corvette with a manual transmission. At least, you should.
