Consumer Reports is one of the most prestigious product evaluation outfits out there and lately, they have been rather hard to impress. Even still, they saw through the hype to realize that the all-new, 2012 Toyota Camry is a pretty good car. Given to the best known midsize sedan in the automaker’s history was the publication’s highest ranking, landing it on their Recommendation list. “The Camry has a nicer interior, more responsive handling, and better fuel economy than before,” said Consumer Reports editors. “In fact, the four-cylinder model’s 27 mpg overall ties with the Hyundai Sonata for the best fuel economy among conventional gasoline-powered family sedans.”
For a long time, the publication held high regard for Toyota as a brand. In 2007 however, something happened to make them think otherwise. According to an Automotive News article, issues regarding the Tundra Pickup, six cylinder Camry and Lexus GS hurt Consumer Reports’ perception of the brand. So when the new Camry landed on the top-spot list, it came somewhat as a surprise. This is good for Toyota as the publication can completely de-rail a car’s future; just look at the 2012 Honda Civic.
