Chrysler Group LLC is issuing a voluntary recall of a certain number of vehicles equipped with the new Pentastar V6. In total, 657 vehicles could potentially be affected; all of which were sold in the United States. Models of the 2011 Chrysler 200 and Town & Country, Dodge Journey, Durango and Grand Caravan, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee fitted with the 3.6 liter V6 are the ones to be inspected. The issue steams from manufacturing machining process, which may have left debris in the engines which will cause them to lose power and eventually fail.
As of now, Chrysler has yet hear of any actual failures of the consumer engines due to the problem. Regardless, the company will replace the engines at certified dealerships at no cost to the owners. Notice letters will be sent out in October. “The condition was caught early at the plant during a scheduled audit and only 657 potentially affected vehicles were delivered to dealers, the majority of which have not been sold,” said David Dillon, Head of Product Investigations and Campaigns for Chrysler LLC.
