2013 Fiat 500e

Chrysler is recalling more than 4,100 Fiat 500 electric cars to fix a problem that may cause power loss while driving, reports The Detroit News.

The automaker will replace the power inverter module on 2013-2015 Fiat 500e cars. The module alters electric current to accommodate battery-powered propulsion.

A warranty data review prompted an investigation by Chrysler in which engineers discovered a defect that may “over time seep coolant onto electrical components, causing a short-circuit leading to power loss.”

Chrysler is aware of five incidents, but no fires. The automaker is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to the issue.

The cars were built between September 2012 and April 4. The automaker said that owners will be contacted directly “and advised when they may schedule service.”
