Due to an investigation by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) into certain Chrysler minivans, the company has issued a recall. A select number of 2008 model year Dodge Grand Caravans, Chrysler Town & Country and Grand Voyager (South American market) are being looked into for a potential airbag malfunction. According to the NHTSA report, the HVAC drain grommet can leak onto the occupant restraint control module. The leak can cause an illumination of the airbag warning light which can lead to an unexpected deployment.
The recall affects Chrysler minivans built during June 24, 2007 through July 30, 2008. 299,718 vans are potentially in trouble of airbag deployment. Chrysler will replace the module free of charge and will begin contacting owners during August.
