Chrysler LLC’s Toledo Machining Plant located in Perrysburg, Ohio is looking to receive a boost that should help more future products. Chrysler is prepared to invest $72 million into the plant for the purpose of developing new front and rear drive automatic torque converters. This will also alow Toledo to hold onto 640 hourly and salaried jobs.
“Being able to bring new technology to this facility secures its long-term future,” said Scott Garberding, Senior Vice President and Head of Manufacturing for Toledo. The new technology will help future Chrysler LLC products receive newer transmissions much faster than expected. The upcoming, in-house eight speed automatic transmission that should be found in many rear wheel drive Chrysler products will get its torque converter from Toledo. Future front wheel drive Chryslers will also see a Toledo-built converters in their new automatic: a nine speed that will be produced at the Indiana Transmission Plant.
Toledo has been operational since 1966 and currently builds both Chrysler torque converters and steering columns. It covers 1.2 million square feet of land and this upcoming investment will add to the already impressive $3.2 billion investment by Chrysler into their U.S. facilities since 2009.
