With every new and exciting thing, there will always be a few faults. While impressive as Chrysler LLC’s Pentastar V6 engine may be, it is still a piece of machinery that is susceptible to error. On some earlier production models of the powerplant, that error stems from the cylinder heads which are now being replaced. The automaker is setting out to swap the heads on a select grouping of vehicles equipped with the 3.6 liter.

According to Automotive News, there could be about 7,500 engines affected with the issue. No yet fully disclosed, the problme is being remeded by a more robust cylinder head that is now in mass production. With close to 2 million engines made in the past two years, the “bad apple” mills are still a small percent. At the end of July, there were approximately 1,300 vehicles nationwide looking for cylinder head service. Currently, Chrysler has a stock of about 3,000 parts waiting to picked up by dealerships.

Each engine being repaired is being taken care of under warranty. Given the extensive nature of the labor, some owners could be away from their vehicles for more than a week. To compensate, some dealers are paying for rental vehicles.
