It hasn’t been much time since the Chevrolet Volt gas-electric hybrid has been in the hands of consumers, which means it is about time owners speak out about its actual performance. Recently, Chevrolet contacted some Volt owners to find out just how much they are saving since they made the purchase. The Volt may not be fully electric, but its high output electric motor and large capacity battery allows it to run without its gasoline engine for a good while.
“I was tired of spending roughly $200 plus a month on gas,” said Kory Levoy, a Chevrolet Volt owner. “The ability to not even consider finding a gas station or worry about fuel pricing is a phenomenal experience.” Levoy said that he has driven his Volt about 7,500 miles and has only filled up three times. That is remarkably better compared to his former vehicle, an Audi TT Roadster.
“Each day, I use about a quarter of a gallon of gas to get to work, which is hardly anything,” said Carey Bailey, another Volt owner. Since he purchased his Volt in January, Baily said that his monthly gas bill has dropped to $100 compared to $500 with his old car.
The Chevrolet Volt is able to drive 35 miles completely under electric power and producing zero emissions. After that, the gas engine takes over and gives the car a total range of about 379 miles on a full take of fuel.
