When the 2012 New York International Auto Show opens its doors April 6, with it will be the debut of two all-new Chevrolets. The badges stamped to the fenders of these vehicles may be household names, but both the Impala and Traverse are getting ready for a total transformation. Scheduled for the 2014 model year, the full size Impala sedan will continue the namesake’s strong heritage that dates back to 1958. Ready for action by the 2013 model year, the full size Traverse SUV will follow its Lambda brother, the GMC Acadia, into its second generation.
GM and Chevrolet have yet to give up on the large car market, and the continuation of the Impala is proof. They firmly believe the sedan helped them earn heavy sales in the past year and hope to increase their numbers even further with the 2014 model. “The momentum at Chevrolet continues to build with the debut of the 10th generation of the Impala, one of the brand’s most enduring and cherished nameplates,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Global Chevrolet Marketing. “The new Impala further strengthens Chevrolet’s passenger car lineup by giving consumers a full-size sedan that balances the desire for distinction with engaging driving dynamics.”
Easily one of the most successful vehicles in Chevrolet’s recent past, the Traverse name has only been around since 2008 but it’s impact has been strong inside the fullsize family hauler segment. Designed to give buyers space, comfort and safety, the new 2013 model will further those philosophies by adding even more innovative features to its inventory. When it hits the streets, the Traverse will have the industry’s first ever front center air bag. “The new Traverse builds on the success of the current model offering a wide variety of improvements to ride and handling, interior materials and exterior styling without compromising the functionality and capability families need to support their busy lives,” said Perry.
