General Motors and Chevrolet are issuing a recall on their most illustrious product to date, the Corvette. The recall affects certain 2011 and 2012 model years manufactured from January 24, 2011 through September 2011. As of now, approximately 5,755 units are being inspected for failing to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 206: door locks and door retention. The rear hatch hinges of certain coupes may not meet the load requirements of the standard, causing the hatch to fail.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rear could separate in an accident, causing further damage. Chevrolet is conducting the notification now and preparing their dealerships for the repairs. If affected, the Corvette’s hatch will be replaced free of charge to the owner.
