Certain 2012 model year Chevrolet Impala four door sedans are being recalled due to a potential steering issue. An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into the hydraulic power assist sparked the recall of Impalas manufactured from April 19, 2011 through July 29, 2011. The issue involves the upper power steering hose piping and connections which may have been improperly routed. This could cause the system to come into contact with or get close to the exhaust’s catalytic converter. Due to the massive amount of heat that is given off by the exhaust, the power steering hose could melt, starting a leak and or a vehicle fire.
The potential total number of 2012 Chevrolet Impalas to be affected by this recall is approximately 10,344 units. General Motors dealerships will inspect and remedy the problem free of charge. The recall notice is already under way as General Motors has begun reaching out to Impala owners.
