General Motors recently made an investment into its Wentzville Assembly plant so the United States can get the next generation Colorado truck. To get the plant ready for the U.S.-spec midsize pickup, $385 million will be put into the plant and will create and or retain 1,260 jobs. Even though it will be based on the all-new global platform that launched the Euro and Asian Colorado, the North American version will call Wentzville home and will be tailored to the U.S. market. The plant currently has 1,400 employees working two shifts to produce the commercial Savanna and Express vans. The vans will be built alongside the new Colorado when it makes its run sometime late 2012.
“The all-new Colorado builds on Chevrolet’s strong truck heritage,” said Cathy Clegg, GM vice president of Labor Relations. “As we celebrate the first 100 years of Chevrolet today, it is exciting to bring this new global product to the Wentzville team. They also have a strong heritage – a long-standing commitment to building quality products.”
