Without proper demonstration, a manufacture’s claims are just that: claims. Jeep has never been one to back down from a challenge and their real-life test drive event, Camp Jeep, is muddy proof. Usually, the event is held on certified off road trails where new vehicles are put to the test by consumers and mix it up with public-built Jeeps so factory stock can be compared to “what could be”. The legendary SUV builder is changing things up as Camp Jeep will make an appearance at this year’s San Diego International Auto Show. A 22,000 square foot exhibit will give show-goers the opportunity to drive the brand’s current icons where they are supposed to be driven: in the muck.
Inside the San Diego Convention Center will be an obstacle course built by Camp Jeep employees. Everything that Jeep engineers must address such as ground clearance, traction, stability and suspension articulation will be evaluated by the public. Things to concur will a 18 foot mobile mountain, multiple 18 inch diameter fallen logs and a 30 degree wedge. Jeep’s most capable vehicles, the 2012 Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, will be on hand for attendees to sample while Camp Jeep specialists will be available for expert off road driving advice. The San Diego International Auto Show starts December 29 and runs until January 1.
