Much like the epic one-two finish of the Corvette C7.Rs at the Rolex 24 hour race, Cadillac just won the second round of the Pirelli World Challenge GT Series Championship in the same fashion. With smart strategy and some blind luck Johnny O’Connell and Michael Cooper were able to finish the race in their ATS-V.Rs. Engaged in a knock down drag out battle from the drop of the green flag, the duo held strong, surviving contact hard enough to warrant pit penalties and multi lap battles for position right up to the end of the race.
As the four-time defending champions for both driver and manufacturers titles, Cadillac and Johhny O’Connell are surely pleased with the results of this race. Cadillac has a long history of tallying up racing victories and this season is shaping up to be no different. We’re excited to see how they perform this weekend at St. Petersburg for rounds 3 and 4 of the championship. With Porsche clocking in the win for Round One, Cadillac can’t sit back and just assume they will dominate the field this year, so the racing should be extra exciting.
