There might be an influx of Cadillac crossovers simply rolling off by themselves as a few of them have failed to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 114: Theft Protection. The requirement regulates the devices that prevent a car from being operated in an unauthorized fashion: i.e. being stolen. Certain SRX suvs may have an improperly installed automatic shifter cable which could come out of the transmission bracket. This means that the shifter will either be unable to be taken out of park, making forward motion moot or, the SRX could be taken out of park with no indication that this action has occurred. What happens next: rolling Cadillacs.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2010 and 2011 model year vehicles are being affected. SRXs built from October 26, 2008 through June 23, 2011 are a part of the recall. So far, Cadillac is looking into approximately 8,789 crossovers for inspection, which will take place in January, 2012. General Motors will notify owners and certified dealers will inspect the shifter cable and if necessary, re-route and seat the cable bracket at no extra cost to drivers.
