It is safe to say that the full size luxury dinosaur also known as the Cadillac Escalade is one tough looking truck with its sharp-as-knifes angles. It may look menacing, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming the most stolen vehicle in the United States. Partly to blame for its ‘bling’ factor, the truck became so targeted for theft that General Motors themselves took notice. Thus, the 2012 model year will bring one of the highest security levels the Escalade has ever seen but most buyers won’t even know.

“The goal is to make the Escalade a very difficult target for thieves without any added inconvenience for customers,” said Bill Biondo, General Motors’ global leader for vehicle theft prevention. “The new systems work in the background and few people realize they are there, but they are strong added protections.” Coupled with the existing protection of OnStar, all 2012 models will feature subtle deterrents not seen before. Items such as a key encryption system named PASS Key 3+, a tougher steering column locker, an inclination sensor that triggers the alarm when the truck changes angle (such as being lifted away), a more sensitive ‘shock’ sensor to detect break-ins, and newly added wheel locks. OnStar has the ability to lessen theft as well with features such as vehicle GPS location and a remote ignition lock-out.
