With ever tightening restrictions on fuel consumption and emissions, every company is chasing better fuel economy. Cadillac is stepping up its MPG skills for 2016 with a selection of new equipment and technology for its various models. The first step in the plan is swapping out all the old 6-speed automatic transmissions with newer 8-speed units. From there it’s on to the engines.
All of Cadillac’s new V6 engines have cylinder deactivation, allowing them to run on four cylinders to save fuel. The V8 engines found in the Escalade and CTS-V also have cylinder deactivation. Another piece of Cadillac’s fuel economy puzzle is start/stop technology. You will find this as standard equipment on more Cadillac’s starting in 2016.
The all-new Cadillac CT6 is one of the best models to really demonstrate all this technology, and it is the world’s first and only production car to have a V6 that combines turbocharging, cylinder deactivation and start/stop technology together.
Altogether, Cadillac says it has cut its CO2 output as much as 6-percent on some models. That may not sound like a lot, but it’s a combination of these smaller steps and improvements year over year that will get us to a cleaner and more efficient world.
