The anticipation for the new Corvette Stingray keep growing as GM releases little nuggets of information about the seventh generation of the iconic sports car. The General’s newest nugget lays out some pretty impressive performance and track numbers that back GM’s earlier claims on 0-60 times in the sub-4 seconds range.
Using a mostly-stock (racing seat with safety harness and an on-board fire suppression system) Stingray equipped with the Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control, testing engineers hit 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.
Applying the brakes resulted in a 60-0 stopping distance on a mere 107 feet. In between starting and stopping, the Z51 was able to hold an impressive 1.03 g in the corners. And of course, a Corvette’s stat sheet wouldn’t be complete without a quarter mile run. GM says they completed the quarter-mile in 12 seconds flat at 119 mph.
The same 2014 Corvette Z51 then completed a lap at the Virginia International Raceway’s 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.
As equipped, the Corvette Stingray Z51 costs $56,590 – with the Z51 Performance Package costing $2,800 and the Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management costing another $1,795. Without all the racing goodies, a base C7 retails at $51,995. The Stingray will hit dealer lots in the third quarter of 2013.
