Some of the most storied names of GM’s past come from Buick. The current purveyor of old and boring once sold some of the most powerful and performance oriented models of the 1970s and ’80s. These legendary cars carried the names of Grand National, GNX and T-Type.

Inside Line is now reporting that these great models will once again see the light of day, courtesy of the Cadillac ATS. Reports currently say that the new Caddy’s underpinnings will be the base of the cars, all to arrive sedans. Power for the Grand National and T-Type are pegged to be a twin turbo version of the 3.6-liter V6 already found under the hood of the Buick LaCrosse. Potential power output has been quoted as high as 400 horsepower.

IL thinks the bad-boy GNX will be powered by the all-new LT1 small-block V8 from the new Corvette. Again, this is all from Inside Line and none of these details are confirmed, but we sure hope they are true. We would love to see Buick carry a few performance icons in the lineup again.
