The Bugatti Veyron is one of those special creations. It will forever define the ultimate point of engineering and progression for the internal combustion engine. But that doesn’t mean that the basic recipe can’t be improved.

We all know that the Veyron was the fastest car in the world. Now that title belongs to the upgraded Veyron Super Sport. Well Automobile is reporting that Bugatti is not done with its Über car and is in-fact working on a Super Veyron.

The report says this newest Bugatti will be powered by a larger, possibly 9.6-liter, W16 engine with a whopping 1,600 horsepower. That is 600 more than the base Veyron and another 400 over the Super Sport. The car will receive some redesigned bodywork to make it even more aerodynamic, and the whole thing has a potential top-speed of 288 mph. Another goal in the performance check-list is a weight loss of over 500 pounds. If all goes to plan the Veyron will hit the magic power to weight ratio of 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) per pony.

If this looks like your next impulse buy, make sure you have an estimated $2.5 million and some time. No hard word on if this will make it to production, but if it does get the green light, we wouldn’t expect to see it before 2014.
