BMW, the company that has spent decades creating the “Ultimate Driving Machine” is about to release its first front-wheel drive vehicle. The new 2 Series Active Tourer is official and will be on sale later this year in Europe. Not only is it the first FWD BMW, it is also one of the ugliest. With a “mini-minivan” exterior style like the C-Max and Mazda5, the Active Tourer is the most awkward looking Bimmer in a decade or so.
It hits show rooms in three models; 218i, 218d and 225i. The 218i is powered by the same 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that will be found in the Mini Cooper. The 225i is powered by a 2.0 turbo with 228 horsepower. The 218d is obviously a diesel, and it makes use of BMW’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine.
Technically there are no plans to release the new 2 Series Active Tourer on US soil, but word on the street has BMW bringing the new model to our shores in early 2015.
What do you think about this new model? Is BMW destroying its brand heritage with a FWD car, or could you care less?
