BMW announced recently that an investment into their South Carolina plant will be made in order to create jobs and build a stronger workforce in the southeast. Confirmation that a goal to hire 100 employees to be a part of a manufacturing recruitment program and a family health center was issued by Harald Krueger, BMW Group Board Member responsible for Human Resources. “These innovative programs and new jobs serve to exemplify how much we care about current and future generations. This is part of our long-term approach to sustainability.”
Krueger went on to mention that BMW isn’t just about the automobile, but the future of the BMW associate. The new manufacturing recruitment program, named BMW Scholars, will scout and train future employees to be apart of the German family. The program looks to create new engineers, IT professionals and Production Management associates, with the majority of them being located at the South Carolina plant. Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina, said, “BMW is a perfect corporate example of manufacturing excellence in South Carolina. They understand what it means to take care of and invest in their employees. These quality improvements and hires are why their employees invest in the quality of their product and are loyal to the company. We are proud that they call South Carolina home.”
BMW Scholars will team up with Spartanburg Community College, Greenville Technical College and Tri-County Technical College to work with students and give them an understanding as to what working for BMW would be like. Tuition help, book assistance and possible full scholarships will be offered. Real hands-on, on sight work experience at the plant will be available to students as well.
