Former Chrysler Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Bernhard will not join the Auburn Hills-based automaker’s management, Cerberus Capital Management Chairman John Snow said this morning.

One of the advantages Cerberus is believed to have had in its negotiations to buy the U.S. unit from DaimlerChrysler AG is the hiring of Bernhard as an adviser to help the deal.

Bernhard had worked with DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche and Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda.

Snow described Bernhard as a “close friend” of LaSorda and said, “He and Mr. LaSorda will work well going forward.”
