For decades, Audi S cars have always been powered by high-revving, gas-powered high-horsepower engines but it seems that times might be changing. The German company has had good success with their diesel cars (mostly in Europe) and has made great strides to continue that success into the future. They might have found one more way to bring more diesels into the hands of buyers by equipping a duo of S cars with spark-plug-less engines.

Rumor has it that the for the first time, Audi will give buyers a choice of engines in its S cars; specifically the S6 and S7. Currently, the hot-rod versions of the A6 and A7 will get Audi’s 4.0 liter turbocharged V8 that should put out 450 horsepower but there have been talks of a high output diesel finding its way under these sports sedan’s hoods. The turbocharged engine would displace 3.0 liters and could make anywhere from 300 to 350 horsepower. What’s more exciting is the potential of 450+ lb-ft of torque that would be generated almost instantly. Horsepower and torque ratings aside, this engine would make the S6 and S7 much more fuel-efficient than its gasoline powered brothers.
