With cars such as the Porsche Panamera, Maserati Quattroporte and Mercedes CLS AMG finding homes, it would seem that the Aston Martin Rapide would be able to do the same. Those cars, including the Rapide, fall into a very unique segment and consumers looking for a high-end super-sedan are apparently not flocking to the Rapide as much as the rest of the competition. Aston Martin recently announced that production of their first four door will be cut by as much as 50 percent for the upcoming model years.
Annual capacity could drop as low as 1200 units globally for the Rapide. Production will also be moved from the larger Austria assembly plant to the much more compact Great Britain facility. Comparatively, one of the Rapide’s heaviest competitors, the Porsche Panamera, is expected to sell 7,000 units in the United States alone. It is always a low day when a beautiful piece of machinery starts to get phased out, but there is a upside to this news. With much lower numbers, the 510 horsepower V12 four door super car will become just that much more prestigious.
