Certain models of the premium Honda sport sedan, the Acura TL, will soon be recalled due to premature wear and tear. Prolonged under-hood heat is to blame for the power steering hoses cracking and leaking fluid. A combination of excess engine heat and sky-high fluid temperatures will cause leaks that can both decrease power steering strength as well as spills onto the hot catalytic converter. It this occurs too much, smoke will billow and if worse came to worse, an engine fire could result.
Currently, Honda and Acura are investigating approximately 52,615 TL sedans. The recall is affecting certain 2007 and 2008 model year vehicles and owners should be notified of the issue on or around June, 15 of this year. In order to remedy the problem, certified dealers will have technicians replace the aging pieces with new, heat-resistant power steering hoses. The fix will take place at no extra cost to drivers.
