This November, the annual Los Angeles Auto Show will open its doors to reveal a number of new concepts and models. One of them will be from Volkswagen and it should be a breath of fresh air as the current generation Beetle will finally drop its top. Like the rest of the retroactive model line, the upcoming Convertible will be more muscular than previous interpretations with wider fenders and longer roof line. Given that it will be debuting in LA, the production ready version should hit the streets just in time for the warm days of 2013.
While official specs and pictures have yet to be revealed, an Autoblog article has stated that the Convertible Bug could be the most “nostalgic” of the Beetle line up. Supposedly, “period-correct” trim will complement retro paint colors and interior trimmings. The goal looks to have the drop top be as “old” as possible while still being up-to-date, efficient and fun-to-drive. North American shoppers are looking to get a choice of three engines; all of which are currently in use. The base powerplant will be the 2.5 liter straight five while the TDI diesel will offer torque filled efficiency and the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder will give tire spinning thrust.
