Volvo has introduced the expected, and absolutely gorgeous, R-Design models of the S90 sedan and V90 wagon. Sportier than the normal trims of the respective cars, the R-design designation has been around for a few years on other Volvos.
According to Volvo, the S90 and V90 R-Design has “an advanced sport chassis that delivers an energetic, road-hugging drive.” While not a full-on Polestar or R, the R-Design does generally add sportier handling and better steering to normal Volvos, but usually not any extra power.
On these cars specifically, there’s a new front end with spoiler-integrated fog lights, unique grill and piano black trim, and new 5 spoke wheels. On the inside there’s new interior illumination, “unique deco trim, pedals and mats” as well as more aggressive seats and a new steering wheel.
The S90 and V90 R-Design will compete with similar trims from BMW, Audi and Lexus. BMW has their M-Sport cars, Audi has their S-line option, and Lexus has F-Sport. All inspired by the performance division of each brand, these sport options generally sell pretty well, so let’s hope the Volvos do the same.
