The Fusion is finally getting some much needed Ecoboost muscle. Ford has confirmed that the new Fusion Sport will have 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque from its 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6, along with all-wheel drive standard. For its class, that’s the most torque you can get in a sedan. Yes of course there are more expensive, performance oriented sedans with more torque, but this is just a normal sedan that happens to have some grunt to it. The rivals that Ford hopes to hit include the BMW 535i, Audi A6 3.0t and the Mercedes-Benz E400. Those are some lofty goals for anything wearing a Ford badge.
Ford is looking to target not just V6 Camry and Accord buyers, but instead German luxury sedan buyers as well. They’re looking to lure them in with the boatloads of torque and intelligent luxury features for a discounted price over anything German. The Fusion Sport starts at just $33,475. Hopefully this will be a full on effort from Ford and not just a bigger engine shoved into the Fusion. From what we can tell, though, the new advanced suspension that is being offered in the Sport is a good start, spotting bumps and adjusting the suspension to take them better, much like Mercedes’s Magic Ride Control. With that power, that suspension, a hopefully decent automatic transmission, and available summer tires, the Fusion Sport might just be fun little runner.
