The Ford Focus RS, and the rally version, the RS RX, their premier rally cars has been honored with a documentary labeled “PROJECT RX”. Fanboys have been eagerly awaiting the most recent model due to the pairing of Ford Performance engineers and the UK based M-sport Hoonigan Racing Division. The four-part documentary explains the development process and giving a behind the scenes look at what’s going on. There will be interviews and various other goodies entailed. You can check out the video down below.
Many of the same technologies found in the Focus RS RX rally car translate over to production models sporting the sleek RS trim. The names over at Hoonigan, like Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud, played massive roles in the R&D, providing expert perspectives on improvements and short-comings during testing.
The pure passion for this vehicle made 2016 the ideal year to divulge the RS RX project. Only top notch Focus’ get the RS badge when they’re proven to meet the strict performance standards from Ford Performance, which has had strong participation and victories in the rally world for decades with RS badged cars. People tend to forget, but Ford has more Manufacturers’ Championships in the WRC than Audi.
Ford is looking to expand its trophy cabinet in 2016 with this new rallycross car. Hopefully, the team at Hoonigan Racing and M-Sport can come together with Ford to create a dominating force. The first event of the season is at Hockenheim, Germany from May 6-8. Looks like we won’t have to wait very long to see if Ford’s new racers are any good.
