I love camping, and I love scuba diving, and I love doing lots of other outdoor type things. In fact, I love doing these things so much that I have often thought about selling some of my cars, and buying a truck and a camper. As much as I love my little MK6 VW Golf, it just can’t handle pulling a big trailer.
But then I found the HC1 from Happier Camper.
It’s a silly name to be sure, but Happier Camper has created what may just be the best lightweight camper ever created. Not only is it just 1100 pounds unladen, but it features a smartly designed interior that is completely customizable. The entire inside can be filled with special boxes that snap together like Lego bricks to make chairs, beds, cabinets, counters, or anything else you need. It’s insanely smart. Plus, since none of it is permanent, you can swap it out from vacation to vacation to make room for stuff you need. Going on a camping trip but want to take your motorcycle? You can stack all the pieces on one side of the trailer to make room for the bike in the other side. Just you going on a fishing trip? Take out a bed and add more counter space for fish prep.
Or even better, what about a race trailer? If you are an amateur track racer, this machine can be towed by your track car, hold all your spare tires and racing gear, and it gives you a place to rest up at the track if you need it.
These little campers are being built from modern fiberglassing techniques that promise longer life than before with stronger walls, and lighter weight. Plus they are guaranteed to never rot. They are even built right here in the USA in California.
Of course, like all smartly designed and futuristic things that are made in California, the HC1 certainly isn’t cheap. Prices start at around $16,000 and go up from there. But if you need a functional trailer that you can pull behind basically any car on the market, this looks to be one of the best choices around.
