The Volkswagen Group is currently gearing up for a recall of some 6,200 models of Golf, GTI and A3. Thanks to a faulty coating on some fuel pump internals, the pumps could malfunction. The problem seems to stem from a nickel plating inside the fuel pump that can come loose and bodge up the works. Both BMW and Nissan are also facing similar problems.
Thankfully the number of affected units is small, despite the relatively solid sales of the Golf and A3 models. If you are the proud owner of a 2015 Golf, GTI or A3 and you are concerned, VAG is currently in the process of notifying the affected owners to arrange for repairs. If the fuel pump does fail, it is unlikely that anything catastrophic or dangerous will occur. The car with either refuse to start, or if the fail happens while in motion, the kill the bodies and leave them.

SUMMARY:
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Volkswagen Golf, GTI, and Audi A3 vehicles. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle will not start, or if the engine is running, it will stop and the vehicle will stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
REMEDY:
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any affected fuel pumps, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi at 1-800-253-2834.
