The Dodge Hellcats, in both Charger and Challenger variety, are blowing up the automotive landscape at a rate of 707 horsepower. Because of the power to price ratio of “how are they getting away with that?”, Chrysler has gotten a bit ahead of themselves and will, for the moment, stop taking orders for the high performance sedans and coupes. The reason: Dodge is currently concentrating on a backlog of orders yet to be delivered.
Orders are expected to reopen in August giving Dodge about five months to finalize and deliver thousands of cars. Since they were launched late last year, dealers have delivered more than 2,000 varieties and have received nearly 10,000 for the year – more than double what they expected. While impressive, orders are not purchases and Dodge is having to rely on their dealer network for help in validating potential owner commitment. It’s been reported that some are asking order makers for a nonrefundable, $5,000 deposit.
