Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 29,500 new Fiat 500L cars in North America to replace knee-protecting air bags, reports The Detroit News.
According to the automaker, testing showed that air bags may fail to deploy in some cases. The system designed to protect a driver’s knees may not deploy in the proper position if the driver is not wearing a seat belt.
The recall covers an estimated 25,500 2014-2015 Fiat 500L models in the U.S., and 4,000 in Canada.
“Until fixes are made, owners are advised to always wear seat belts,” the newspaper reported.
