Nissan Motor plans to build a car assembly plant in Myanmar where it will manufacture the Nissan Sunny compact sedan in 2015.
In August, the company received approval from Myanmar Investment Commission for the joint venture auto plant with Malaysia’s Tan Chong Motors.
According to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, Myanmar will become an “important economic engine” for Southeast Asia. The plant will be built on the 80-acre industrial complex, which will be the largest auto factory in Myanmar.
The plant will initially employ 300 workers and produce more than 10,000 cars per year at full production.
The company did not disclose financial details.
