Pulling heaving things is generally a sure-fire way to advertise the strengths of a truck or SUV. Like a muscle-bound gym rat hitting the town on a Friday night, showing off those ripped biceps is a way of gaining attention.
In a similar way, Nissan has flexed those V-8 muscles powering the (not for the US market, sadly) full-size Patrol SUV by hitching to a 170.9-ton Ilyushin IL-76 cargo plane and lugging it 164 feet down an airport runway.
The feat took place last week at the Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates with Guinness World Records supervising. The 170.9-ton pull shattered the previous unmodified production vehicle tow record by a substantial 15 tons. That previous record was held by the Volkswagen Touareg, which pulled a loaded 747 weighing 155 tons. Check out Nissan’s official video below.
