Ford Motor plans to double production of its MKZ Hybrid sedan for the 2014 model year, reports The Detroit News.
Raj Nair, Ford’s group vice president of global product development, told the newspaper that 40% of MKZ production will be dedicated to building the hybrid model.
The 2014 MKZ Hybrid model will go on sale later this year, the newspaper reports.
Ford has three hybrid offerings: the C-Max, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
Current, Ford produces more than 700 Lincoln MKZ Hybrids each month at its assembly plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, according to a company production report.
The automaker has sold 3,090 MKZ Hybrid cars this year — about 500 a month.
