The EPA has released their estimates this week for the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Equipped with the all-new 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 and seven-speed manual transmission, the coupe earns 17 mpg city/29 mpg highway.

The EPA averaged fuel mileage in manual-equipped Corvette in both its default “Tour” mode and driver-selectable “Eco” mode. If left in Eco mode, the Vette will return 30 mpg on the open highway. Not too shabby for a V-8 engine making 455 horsepower.

The science behind the numbers lies within that new LT1 V-8 which features variable valve timing, direct injection, and Active Fuel Management. Once in Eco mode, the engine can shut down four cylinders when the extra power isn’t needed. Those Stingrays equipped with the six-speed automatic will always have Active Fuel Management available except when placed in manual shift mode. Fuel economy estimates for the automatic haven’t been released yet.

GM says the in highway fuel rating is an 11-percent increase over the outgoing C6 model; even though the horsepower output grows six percent. It’s also interesting to note that the optional dual-mode exhaust system raises the horsepower output even further to 460.

The C7 Stingray coupe will go on sale this fall with the Stingray convertible following a few months behind.
