What better way to improve a brand’s flagship sedan than by throwing more power under the hood? In Cadillac’s case, they have announced they’re dropping in the all-new twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 into the XTS sedan for 2014.
The direct-injected, twin-turbocharged, V-6 sports variable valve timing and will produce 410 horsepower and 430 lb-ft. of torque at 5,700 rpm and 3,500 rpm respectively.
The engine originally debuted with the 2014 CTS in hopes of competing with Audi and BMW offerings. In the CTS, however, the 3.6-liter will scroll out 10 more horsepower for a total of 420. The torque stays the same at 430 lb-ft. No doubt this is the stoutest six-banger in GM’s history.
Unfortunately, the XTS won’t get GM’s new eight-speed transmission, but is rather mated to a six-speed unit built for transverse mounting in front-wheel-drive sedans.
Pricing for the twin-turbo mill in the XTS hasn’t been announced yet, but a 2013 base model XTS goes for $44,995 including shipping charges.
