Chrysler Group LLC said it will invest nearly $374 million to expand its operations in Indiana. The investment will create about 1,250 new jobs.
The company will invest $212 million to install additional tooling and equipment needed to produce the eight- and nine-speed transmissions at its Kokomo plants, adding up to approximately 400 new jobs.
Work on the facilities is scheduled to begin in the second quarter 2013, with equipment and tooling to be installed in the fourth quarter 2013.
In addition, Chrysler will acquire the former Getrag facility in Tipton. The company will invest $162 million in Tipton to establish an additional assembly site for the nine-speed transmission. Production at the site will begin in the first quarter of 2014. The project will create up to 850 new jobs.
According to the company, hiring for the positions in Kokomo will begin in the second quarter, while Tipton positions will be available in the fourth quarter.
