The car market has been a miserable place to be over the last 4 or 5 years. The recession has caused record low sales volumes across nearly every brand in every market. Unless you’re Subaru that is. Despite the unheard of downturn in auto sales, the quirky company owned by Fuji Heavy Industries has seen record growth.
Word now comes from Just-Auto that Subaru plans on cashing on this new-found success by increase production. Subie is looking to boost production from the Lafayette, Indiana plant by 30,000 units by 2014 and add another 100,000 by 2016. That will bring total production up to 300,000 per year.
With cars like the XV Crosstrek taking the market by storm, and the BRZ selling faster than they can import them, we feel like now does seem like the time to boost output. We are sure that the workers at the plant in Indiana don’t mind the extra job security either.
