It appears that two famous British marques are to be united under one with the news of a potential merger between Aston Martin and Lotus.
This new comes courtesy of the scribes at Automobile. Lotus has found itself in quite a large pit of financial issues over the last few years, and a merger with a company that has steady cash-flow like Aston would work well. Add in the fact that no product currently produced by either brand would cause cannibalization of sales and it looks like a perfect match.
There are a few concerns we have about the merger though, and most of them revolve around money. While Aston is good financial health currently, the company has a checkered past of money problems and failed models that resembles Lotus’ in many ways. There is also the issue Of future model crossover. While Lotus currently only makes cheaper lightweight sports cars that are from anything Aston offers, it’s many planned models, like the reborn Esprit, could begin to step into Aston territory.
Of course this is all speculation at the moment, but we will make sure to report on any changing details regarding this potential merger.
