One of the biggest stars at this year’s Paris Motor Show was the Peugeot Onyx concept. This hybrid supercar is covered in matte black paint and gorgeous polished copper. The cooper sheets are each a single piece and run most of the length of the car. They are completely uncoated, with Peugeot saying they wish for the copper to age and oxidize with time. Underneath all that sinister paint and shiny metal is a full carbon fiber body, keeping weight of the concept to right under 2,500 pounds.
The machine is powered by a sweet new hybrid system based on a 600 horsepower, 3.7-liter V8. That is our kind of hybrid engine. The electric side of the system is powered by a lithium-ion battery system that is good for an added 80 horses.
Like all radical concepts the interior of this car looks just as insane as the exterior, with seats that are integrated into the body form. The whole interior is coated in a material that runs from floorboard to headliner and the steering wheel and controls are straight out of a sci-fi movie.
