Nissan Starts Sentra Production in Mexico

The fourth generation Nissan Sentra took a big step forward as production of the sedan is officially underway. Scheduled to hit the market later this fall, the namesake will call the Aguascalientes 1 Mexican assembly plant home and from there, the car will make it to numerous markets. More than $150 million was put into the facility in order to get ready for the Sentra which will represent about half of the plant’s entire production.

“The Aguascalientes manufacturing team earned the responsibility of producing the next-generation Sentra through a long-standing record of productivity, quality and efficiency,” said Bill Krueger, Vice Chairman of Nissan Americas. The Sentra has a long-standing history with Mexico that isn’t looking to end anytime soon. Since 1992, the car has been pieced together there and has been exported to more than 20 countries. For those decades, about 430,200 Sentras have rolled off a Nissan Mexicana assembly line. In addition to the Aguascalientes plant, the 2013 Sentra will be produced at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi facility.
