Not too long ago, Nissan made the statement that if you were to “drive” a midsize sedan to Mars, their 2013 Altima would be the most cost-effective choice. As improbable as the trip may sound, it did bring up a solid point: the Altima is one efficient sedan. Perhaps a bit more realistic, the automaker recently released another bragging right in the form of another trip. If you were to drive across the United States and back again, the Altima would do it for less than its major competitors.
The trip put into consideration would start in our nation’s capital, Washington DC, and would then head west to Los Angeles. Once in California, the Altima would turn around and go all the way back and at the end of the journey, a total of 5,350 miles would be added to the odometer. Given that the average gallon of gasoline goes for $3.776, the Nissan would only use approximately $532 in fuel. The Toyota Camry would spend about $577 and the Chevrolet Malibu would burn through about $612. Needless to say, the Nissan Alitma’s 38 mpg highway rating is a bit impressive.
