While it hasn’t been too long since Volkswagen acquired Porsche, the German giant is more than likely taking a break from seeking out other companies. Currently, VW is responsible for 12 brands and there have been talks of taking on one more – Malaysian Proton – to boost the Southeast Asian market. Even so, the representatives in charge of labor are not supporting the planned buyout due to the simple lack of man power required to take on another automaker.
According to an Automotive News article, Volkswagen’s labor chief, Bernd Osterloh, said he is not ready to back up any further acquisitions by the carmaker. With so much responsiblity, especially considering the very recent Porsche merger, VW is being urged to stabilize first and foremost. With obvious excitement, the automaker has been looking into acquiring Proton who just so happens to also own the English legend, Lotus. But until they can get their labor to agree, Volkswagen will have to make due with just 12 divisions.
